Rappers to Watch From Every State in 2017 – IN

Who: Spazzy D

Age: 18

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Recent Projects: Free (2016)

Songs to Check Out:

Thirsty (2:40)

Drown Me (2:32)

War Pain(3:36)

H2OTHC (4:11)

Just from reading those song titles, you’re probably immediately thinking about Mick Jenkins. And you’re not too far off; while Spazzy doesn’t necessarily sound like Mick, the message he tries to communicate is just about the same. The beats he uses are similar too, however Spazzy sounds more like Kendrick Lamar than the deep voiced Chicagoan. Spazzy truly has a unique sound, and as a young artist, shows a lot of promise.

When Spazzy is on, he produces some pretty good music. Take a listen to “Thirsty”. Crazy similar to the rapping style Kendrick uses on GK;MC. Other than the mixing issues, it’s a very very solid song. “Drown Me” as well; Spazzy displays a little more of his own sound on this song as well, although his influences are still pretty clear. He’s not always so consistent however, and definitely has some work to put in.

As a whole, Spazzy has a ton of potential. He definitely is a true teenaged artist, and looking at his music from a year ago, his growth is incredible. His influences (Mick Jenkins, A$AP Fergie, Kendrick Lamar – check out this rap over the Look Out of Detox beat) are pretty clear in his music, but he takes his own spin on songs to create some really catchy music. While he still has a bit to go, he’s worth checking out now as he continues to capture his own sound and expand his currently limited discography. If you’re curious as to what I mean by this, listen to H20THC to see how he has developed in just the last few months.

I had the opportunity to have a quick interview with spazzy, talking about the influence of water on his music and the influences of other artists on his music. Read that interview below.
